St. Louis Explorers pitcher Pat Burkholder was in fine form, leading his team past the Milwaukee Dairymen, 4-0. The first-place Explorers, at 72-52, now lead their division by 5½ games.

St. Louis relied on the hitting of Fernando Martinez to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Explorers on top, 4-0. For the game, Martinez had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"This win gets us that much closer to where we want to be," Burkholder said in postgame remarks.
