NBL Trophy Goes to Crespo of Milwaukee Monday, May 13th , 1963 No single hit brought Steve Crespo Player of the Week honors -- the Milwaukee Dairymen first baseman corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat. "Hitting is all about discipline," said Crespo. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too aggressively... swinging at a lot of bad pitches... that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes." Concentrate he did. Crespo stroked 10 hits in 17 at-bats while cranking out 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored. This year Crespo has collected a .337 batting average to date with 29 hits in 86 at-bats, 18 RBIs, 5 home runs and scored 9 times. He has played in 27 games. |
