Boston Comes up Empty Against Van der Pas
Thursday, June 23rd , 1960
Steve Van der Pas was throwing strikes early and getting ahead in the count, his manager said after the New York Empires hurler tossed a 4-hit, complete game shutout against the Boston Terriers.

"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Van der Pas. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."

Van der Pas walked 0 and struck out 7 in the 1-0 victory.

This year Van der Pas has a 5-6 mark in 14 starts with a 4.15 ERA. He has given up 99 hits in 97.2 innings, struck out 60 and issued 21 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .265 batting average against him.
