2000 Hits for Jones Sunday, May 11th , 1958 What a day for Pete Jones. The 33-year-old Dallas third baseman reached the 2000-hit mark today and the Wranglers whipped the Cleveland Bobcats 2-1. Jones told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 2000, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball." He went 1 for 4 in the game to reach the milestone. Checking out his career figures, Jones has played in 1875 games with a .283 batting average. Among his 2000 hits are 108 home runs.
