It wasn't easy but the Brooklyn Bluebirds made it look that way.

Starter Gene Lance shut out the New York Knickerbockers despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Brooklyn Bluebirds cruised to victory, 3-0. Lance allowed only 6 hits and rang up 6 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."

To date Lance is 5-6 in 13 starts with a 3.81 ERA and has 48 strikeouts in 99.1 innings.
