Sunday, September 17th , 1961
Los Angeles's John Ambrose took the hill at Hyde Park Stadium today in search of his 200th career win. The 34-year-old ace found it against the Chicago Hawks.
After the historic victory, his manager told reporters, "I saw a tremendous sigh of relief when this thing was over. He was just looking to hug everyone in sight."
He worked 9 innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks in the 9-1 victory, checking Chicago on 4 hits.
"It a big milestone in my career," admitted Ambrose. "When you get close to it, you worry about it a lot. It's done now... and I can relax and enjoy it."
Ambrose has posted 200 victories and 128 defeats in his career with a 3.40 ERA. He also has fanned 1470 batters in 2979.2 innings and given up 2770 hits.
