National Baseball League Names Rookie of Month Thursday, July 1st, 1954 Youngster Jerry Downs emerged as the latest National Baseball League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .298 with 5 home runs and 19 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Downs enjoy the limelight. This season Downs is batting at a .246 clip with 6 home runs and 30 RBIs. |
