Milwaukee's Hartman Top Pitcher in May Monday, June 1st , 1964 Milwaukee Dairymen starter Mel Hartman has collected the National Baseball League Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances. "This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Hartman. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down." In May the 23-year-old compiled a 5-1 record in 6 starts with a 2.23 ERA. He threw 44.1 innings, fanning 34 while walking 14. This year Hartman has compiled a 7-2 record with a 2.50 ERA in 9 starts. |
