Pobladores Russell Silences New York
Wednesday, August 6th, 1952
The New York Empires had no answer today for Los Angeles Pobladores pitcher Percell Russell. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 3-0. New York managed only 4 hits off Russell, who had 3 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Russell got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Pobladores fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."

This year in 23 starts, Russell has recorded 17 wins and absorbed 4 losses. He has pitched 198.1 innings, allowed 154 hits, struck out 109 and has a 1.91 ERA.
