They failed to score a single run against him, losing 3-0. New York managed only 4 hits off Russell, who had 3 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Russell got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.
