Houston Blanks Seagulls, Burris Wins
Monday, August 11th, 1952
In an outstanding mound performance, Houston Drillers starter Bill Burris fired a complete-game shutout against the San Francisco Seagulls at Sam Houston Field today.
Burris was the key to the Drillers's 4-0 win. The 25-year-old right-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 4 hits and 2 walks he allowed.
"4 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."
Burris has made 27 starts so far this year and put up a 11-12 won-lost record with a 2.53 ERA. In 220.2 innings he has allowed 188 hits, walked 48 and struck out 131.
