Emeralds Blanked by Shannon, 9-0
Saturday, July 31st, 1954
Joe Shannon hurled a fine game for the Houston Drillers at Puget Field today, holding the Seattle Emeralds to 3 hits in a shutout win.
"When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy," Houston manager Steven Palps said. "The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
The right-hander had 2 strikeouts and 3 walks in the 9-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," Seattle manager Mark Velez said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
In 23 starts this year Shannon has posted 17 wins while suffering 5 losses. He has pitched 202 innings, allowed 186 hits, struck out 78 and has a 2.32 ERA.
