Columbus Comes up Empty Against Pettey
Tuesday, August 7th , 1962
The Rochester Red Wings shut out the Columbus Jets 4-0 today behind the strong pitching of Neal Pettey. Pettey surrendered only 6 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 2.

Following the last out, Pettey appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Columbus manager , who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Pettey's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The Jets skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Red Wings press conference, Pettey confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Pettey said.

"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Rochester manager added.

To date this season Pettey has compiled a 4-3 record with a 2.72 ERA in 8 starts.
