Noel Goes Hitless, Streak Stopped at 22 Friday, June 29th , 1962 Oklahoma City triumphed over Miami today, but that was only one of the headlines from the game -- Oilers center fielder Ed Noel failed to get a hit in the 7-2 win, bringing his 22-game hitting streak to an abrupt end. "I carried the club a few times over the past couple weeks, but today they carried me," he told reporters in his postgame remarks. "No matter what else happens, it is always good to win a ballgame." This year Noel is hitting .315 with 7 home runs and 27 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .396 clip and scored 54 runs. |
