Portland's Dorsey Snags August Batting Title Saturday, September 1st , 1962 When Gary Dorsey stepped up to the plate in August he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Western Baseball League Batter of the Month award. The young Portland first baseman posted a .347 batting average with 2 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 18 runs. Dorsey also worked pitchers for 14 walks to post a .429 on-base percentage. In 124 games this season Dorsey has compiled a .340 batting average with 167 hits and 11 home runs. He has also scored 61 times and knocked in 93 runs. |
