Ed Cook took South Atlantic Baseball League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 21.

For his spectacular campaign, the Norfolk Tides star has been named the 1962 South Atlantic Baseball League Most Valuable Player Award recipient.

"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the left fielder.


On the season he compiled a .316 batting average to go with a .359 on-base percentage. The native of St. Joseph, Missouri also added 16 doubles, 6 triples, 10 home runs, 55 RBIs and 58 runs scored.

He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 6. Carlton Puckett of the Montgomery Capitals finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Mark Thomas of the Norfolk Tides finished third.
