Granger Wins BRL Top Pitcher Honors Wednesday, August 1st , 1962 There's something about a young rookie winning the Blue Ridge Baseball League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Allen Granger, a 22-year-old starter for the Salem Collegians. In July, he topped off the month with a 4-1 mark and 2.20 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 41 innings, fanned 22 and held opposing teams to a .189 average. This season Granger has crafted a 10-6 mark with a 3.27 ERA in 157 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .240 against him and he has 126 strikeouts. |
