St. Petersburg's Valentine Gets GCL Player of the Week Monday, July 16th , 1962 Steve Valentine swung a blistering bat last week for St. Petersburg, rapping out 8 hits in 21 at-bats against Saints opponents to propel himself to the Gulf Coast Baseball League Player of the Week Award. Whenever the third baseman hit the ball, he hit it with authority. The 19-year-old racked up a .381 batting average with no home runs, 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored. For the season Valentine has produced 42 hits in 147 at-bats for a .286 average with 2 home runs and gotten on base at a .371 clip. |
