It was a season to remember for Mel Taylor, and one for his opposing pitchers to forget. The center fielder for Boise has claimed the 1962 Most Valuable Player Award with a .328 batting average.

Taylor rang up 131 hits, 23 doubles, 4 triples, 17 home runs, 64 RBIs and 74 runs scored. He also posted a .395 on-base percentage in his award-winning season.

He received 4 first place votes out of a possible 6. Cliff Reynolds of the Boise Bobcats finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Billy Groh of the Salem Senators finished third.
