Emeralds Rally Late to Nip Wolverines
Juan Rodriguez could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Detroit Wolverines lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Seattle Emeralds at Wolverine Field. Carroll Reynolds picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 6-4. Juan Rodriguez suffered the loss. Danny Gordon earned his 7th save in 10 tries.

Seattle used a timely hit from Floriano Venegas to get the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Emeralds ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We busted our tails," said Detroit manager Kurt Peterson. "But we came up short."

Seattle is now 70-84, Detroit 79-76.
