The Detroit Wolverines did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Hawks, 5-4, at Wolverine Field. Detroit second baseman Steve Tingle, in particular, had a standout performance. Fred Harrison was credited with the save for Detroit, his 7th of the season. After today's action, Detroit sits at 32-28; Chicago slips to 25-34.

With Detroit leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Tingle hit a sinker from Dan Lee for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Wolverines ahead, 5-0.

Detroit manager Kurt Peterson commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
