Game 5 was big. So was Dave Fields.

In leading San Diego to a crucial 5-3 victory over the Dallas Wranglers at San Diego Sporting Complex, the San Diego starter rose to the occasion, tossing 7 good innings. Fields threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball as the Captains defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 World Series.

Don Hughes had a clutch at-bat with one out in the bottom of the sixth for the Captains. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and San Diego trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single.

"We did a lot of things right," said Fields.

The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 23rd , 1971 at Bluff Park in Dallas.
