San Diego Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
The San Diego Captains got a strong game from starter Ray Heath, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Captains took the 3-1 win over the Denver Burros in Game 2 of the Divisional Round in a 9th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Heath. Heath threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball in the win, which gave the Captains a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
San Diego got a knockout punch from Ron Byrd. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"The ending was a real humdinger," Heath told reporters after the game.
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Gates Crescent Park in Denver.
