Lott Silences Chicago Bats
Crowds lined up early in front of Union Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1977 Major League Baseball season. On the mound was Dick Lott for the visiting St. Louis Explorers and Skip Crawford for the hometown Chicago Traders. In a spirited contest, the Explorers pulled out the win, defeating the Traders by the score of 1-0. Especially impressive was Dick Lott. Earning his 1st save for St. Louis was Bernie Tate.

Lott gave St. Louis a first-rate performance. The 6-foot-1 right-hander permitted no runs on 3 hits over 8 innings of work.

St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood praised his team's "businesslike approach."
