Atlanta Wins, 7-6, Over Empires
|
The Atlanta Generals overcame a pretty good performance by New York third baseman Gary Austin, beating the Empires, 7-6, at Queens Field. Austin was 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Bruce Owen, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 6 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 3-2. Renie White closed the game out for Atlanta, earning his 2nd save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Mike McRae? The Atlanta right fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Generals on top, 7-6. For the game, McRae had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I just tried to make good contact," said McRae.
Atlanta is in 5th place in the American Baseball League Eastern Division with a record of 32-38.
