The Houston Drillers weathered a fine game by Detroit right fielder Jerry Plumley to upend the Wolverines, 12-3, at Wolverine Field. Plumley slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The Drillers have an impressive 45-28 record.

Houston used a well-timed hit by Jim Johnson to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Drillers ahead, 6-3. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

Johnson told a Houston Gazette reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
