Bob Powell could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Los Angeles Pobladores lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Chicago Hawks at San Vicente Park. The winning pitcher was Steve Papa. His record now stands at 5-8. The right-hander went 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits for the Hawks. Tanner Latour closed it out for Chicago, earning his 5th save.
Lute Eccles, who is tied for 5th in the ABL with a .382 on-base percentage, had a direct impact on the outcome. Eccles contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Chicago up, 1-0.
"Some games build character," said Chicago manager Mike Flaherty. "Like this one."
The win gives the Hawks a record of 25-49.
