Captains Win, Downing Bulls, 4-1

San Diego used a superb performance from starting pitcher Mark Pike to down the Kansas City Bulls, 4-1. The winning pitcher was Pike, now 6-2. He tossed 7 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 3. Jack DeWitt earned the save for San Diego, his 14th.
The Captains got a big at-bat from center fielder Jerry Olsen. For the game, Olsen went 2 for 4 with a triple and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 9th double of the season gave San Diego a 2-1 lead.
Olsen called the win "a collective effort."
San Diego is now 37-36, Kansas City 41-33.
