Wolverine Field was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.

The Houston Drillers faced a tough opponent in Detroit pitcher Larry Black, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Wolverine Field by a final score of 2-1. Black went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Dick Knight picked up the win, lifting his record to 4-7 on the season. He struck out 2 and walked 3 in 6 innings, while yielding 1 run.

Houston used the hitting of Mike Lockhart to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put the Drillers on top, 2-0. For the game, Lockhart had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Detroit manager Alex Wobbema said, following the tough loss.

Houston is now 46-28, while Detroit is 39-33.
