Denver Burros starter Willie Purter kept the St. Louis Explorers hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 9-2 win. The Explorers, at 38-39, have lost 4 in a row.

Bobby Raley had a big 2-run double for the Burros in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Denver leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Jim Thurlow and swatted a double to right. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Burros ahead, 3-0.

"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Purter.
