Empires Deal Generals 7-1 Loss
|
The New York Empires beat the Atlanta Generals, 7-1, at Atlantic Station Field. Starting pitcher Elliot Diehl was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. In 6.2 innings, Diehl surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 4. He allowed 1 run. At 39-37, the Empires find themselves in 4th place in the American Baseball League Eastern Division.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Earl Petersen? The New York catcher had a bases-clearing double in the top of the first inning to put the Empires on top, 4-0. For the game, Petersen had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Elliot did a tremendous job," said New York manager John Harris.
