|
New York beat Toronto on the strength of starting pitcher Larry Stanford's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 4-1. The win lifted the New York record to 39-36.
Had Lowell Bickle not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Bickle hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Empires.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Jim Burns.
