Knickerbockers Prevail, 5-3, Over Pittsburgh
|
The New York Knickerbockers dealt the Pittsburgh Industrials a 5-3 loss at Allegheny Field. Rick Hotz was the star on offense. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Vern Gould was the winner. Over 6.1 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Wayne Houston earned the save, his 13th, for the Knickerbockers.
It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Steve Wells, the 31-year old third baseman . Wells contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put New York up, 4-3.
Wells called it "a solid win."
At 40-37, the Knickerbockers find themselves in third place in the National Baseball League Eastern Division.
