Explorers Get Extra-Inning, 5-4 Win
The St. Louis Explorers defeated the Denver Burros by the score of 5-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to catcher Charlie Bartels. Bartels went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks for the Explorers on the day. Alex Alonso, who finished 5th in the ABL in wins with 16 in 1972, earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 4-2. St. Louis bumps their record to 44-34 with the win.

St. Louis needed the clutch hitting of Dave Bieler to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Explorers on top, 5-4. For the game, Bieler had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
