Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the New York Empires got the win.
Toronto got a big-time effort from pitcher Dan Crumm, but it wasn't enough to keep the New York Empires from winning the game, 4-3. Crumm threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The win elevated the Empires to 44-34.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New York first baseman Lowell Bickle, facing Steve Persenaire, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Empires the 4-3 win.
Said Bickle: "What's not to like about a walk-off win?"
