Cleveland wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Bob Yolton, falling to the New York Knickerbockers, 3-2. Yolton threw 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The winner was Tim Fried in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Joe Clabaugh took the loss. With the win, New York raised its record to 43-36.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New York shortstop Dwayne Lamons, facing Joe Clabaugh, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Knickerbockers the 3-2 win.

"We did enough to win," said Lamons.
