The home crowd had a good time watching the San Diego Captains and St. Louis Explorers get after it.

St. Louis pitcher Bruce Shone had a large part in his team subduing the San Diego Captains, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The setback makes San Diego 45-36.

Charlie Bartels went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for St. Louis. The 29-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ed Payne. It was his 32nd RBI of the season.

"We did a lot of things right," said Shone.
