Starting pitcher John Espersen gave the San Diego Captains a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Los Angeles Blockbusters, 3-0, at San Diego Sporting Complex. Jack DeWitt recorded the save, making him 12 for 16. The win for the Captains lifted their record to 47-35.

The Captains had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 3-0, San Diego, with one out. Los Angeles, with runners on 1st and 3rd, was mounting a threat. Ramon Montoya dug in at the plate, but on a 1-2 cutter, he struck out.
