Keough Slugs 2 Home Runs, Industrials Beat Knickerbockers, 8-2
|
Behind a solid performance from left fielder Don Keough, the Pittsburgh Industrials defeated the New York Knickerbockers, 8-2. Keough was 3-6 with 2 home runs and a double, while scoring 3 and driving in 3 for the Industrials. The winning pitcher was Dennis Visco. He's now 5-7. He went 9 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Industrials. The defeat makes New York 46-36.
Lew Ward had a big 2-run home run for the Industrials in the top of the third inning. With Pittsburgh leading 3-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from Chris Hull, who finished 5th in the NBL in ERA with 2.61 in 1969, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Industrials on top, 5-1.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Pittsburgh manager Vincent Wicker.
