Houston Beaten, 3-1, by San Francisco in 13
|
The San Francisco Seagulls downed the Houston Drillers, 3-1, at Sam Houston Field. Stellar pitching by Pete Ragsdale had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 4th in the ABL in ERA with 1.98 in 1967, handcuffed his opponent all game. Albert Green closed it out for San Francisco, earning his 2nd save. San Francisco is now 55-27, 10½ games up in the American Baseball League Western Division.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Matt Legrow? The 26-year old left fielder Legrow stroked a 2-run double in the top of the 13th inning to put San Francisco up, 3-1. For the game, he was 3 for 3, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"Makes our job easier," said Legrow, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
