Empires Fall Short, 4-3, at Detroit
|
The inspired effort of New York left fielder Tim Foster was not enough to prevent a loss, 4-3, to the Detroit Wolverines. Foster was 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Earning his 4th save of the year was Len Pates. The Wolverines, now 7-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
The Wolverines got a big at-bat from first baseman Dave Zellers. For the game, Zellers went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Detroit a 2-0 lead.
"We're a talented bunch when we're playing well," said Zellers. "I think we showed that here."
