Hurons Absorb 5-4 Loss at Queens Field
|
The New York Empires turned back the Toronto Hurons, 5-4, at Queens Field. Earl Petersen, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Chuck Hinck earned his 15th save in 16 chances. New York is 45-40 and Toronto, with the loss, 31-53.
The Empires benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the fourth. With Irv Olson at bat and New York leading 1-0, the Toronto miscue allowed New York to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.
"We'll savor this win," Petersen told the New York Daily, "then get ready for the next game."
