In a tight contest between the Houston Drillers and the Seattle Emeralds, Jerry Zaruba was the determining factor. The Houston right-hander sparkled in his team's 3-1 win. The American Baseball League Western Division-leading Drillers are 53-35.

First Baseman Mike Lockhart made an impact for Houston, when he swatted a run-scoring triple off Paul Geary in the bottom of the third. For the contest, Lockhart was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while scoring 2 runs.

"We busted our tails," said Seattle manager Mark Velez. "But we came up short."
