5-1 Loss to Drillers Extends San Francisco Losing Streak
|
Houston starter Francisco Castro put the San Francisco offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his changeup in leading the Drillers to a 5-1 win. In 7 innings, Castro surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Tom McAteer recorded the save for Houston, his 13th of the season.
Lou Ward, the 20th overall pick in the 1968 draft, contributed to the Houston win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Ward told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
The losses continue to mount for San Francisco, which has now dropped 6 in a row.
