With Late Score, Explorers Beat Blockbusters
Pitcher Randy Birch was sensational for the St. Louis Explorers in his team's 1-0 triumph over the Los Angeles Blockbusters. Birch earned the win. Birch, who finished 2nd in the NBL in ERA with 2.49 last year, went the distance for St. Louis. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. The Explorers, at 40-49, sit in 5th place in the National Baseball League Western Division.

The Explorers got a clutch hit from second baseman Dave Bieler. In the bottom of the ninth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Explorers.

St. Louis manager Ray Fleetwood called it "a darn good win."
