Big Day by Wells Sparks 13-4 New York Win
|
The New York Knickerbockers defeated the Cleveland Bobcats, 13-4. Third Baseman Steve Wells deserved a large share of the credit. Wells was 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 5 for the Knickerbockers. Dave Torre picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 9-6. With this game in the books, New York is 45-43, Cleveland 46-43.
With New York leading 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Wells hit a fastball from Steve Eaton for a 2-run double. It was his 15th double of the season and put the Knickerbockers ahead, 6-3.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Wells.
