Eagles Roll to 8-3 Win Over Knickerbockers
|
The Washington Eagles picked up a win at Monument Field, topping the New York Knickerbockers, 8-3. On the mound for Washington was left-hander Alex Fonseca. He played a principal role in the triumph. The 6th-place Eagles now have a win-loss record of 43-48.
Gary Long had a big 3-run home run for the Eagles in the bottom of the first inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Jack Forbes and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the Eagles on top, 4-0.
"It was a good team win. Everybody threw something in," Fonseca told the Washington Gazette.
