San Diego Pastes New York, 17-1
|
San Diego laid the wood on New York at Knickerbocker Stadium.
The San Diego Captains handed the New York Knickerbockers a sound defeat, 17-1, at Knickerbocker Stadium. Dick Howard was a main contributor to the win. He was 4 for 5 with 3 doubles and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4 for San Diego. San Diego improves to 54-36 with the win. They lead their division by 3½ games.
San Diego catcher Earl Peters contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 61st hit of the season and put the Captains ahead, 9-0.
New York manager Timothy Widholm said: "The beauty of this game is games like this only count as one loss."
