Dave Fields could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his San Diego Captains lost, dropping a 3-2 decision to the New York Knickerbockers at San Diego Sporting Complex. Bruce Owen, who is tied for 6th in the NBL in wins with 10, was the winner. He's now 10-6. The loser was Dave Fields. With the win, the Knickerbockers have a record of 46-44.
Bob White, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1968 draft, had a direct impact on the outcome. White contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put New York up, 3-2.
"Every loss stings," said San Diego manager Joe Mack. "This one is no exception."
