Traders Tuck Away 3-1 Win Over St. Louis
|
The Chicago Traders went home winners at Union Field, thanks in large part to starter Skip Crawford. Crawford stifled the St. Louis Explorers, enabling Chicago to grab the 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Crawford, now 10-5. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 2. Sammy Mason was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.
The Traders had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 3-1, Chicago, with one out. St. Louis, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Tom Guinn dug in at the plate, but on a 1-2 curveball, he struck out.
The first-place Traders, at 59-36, lead the National Baseball League Western Division by 4 games.
