Quakers Pick Up 4-3 Win Against Cleveland
|
Philadelphia beat Cleveland on the strength of starting pitcher Mel Hartman's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. The winner was Hartman. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Bob Yolton. Arnold Jarry recorded the save for Philadelphia, his 1st of the season.
The Quakers got a big at-bat from center fielder Ted Schlener. For the game, Schlener was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 4-2 lead.
Cleveland manager Daniel Mays said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Bobcats, now 47-47, have lost 4 straight.
