Down to Defeat Goes Chicago, 7-3
|
The Dallas Wranglers racked up a win at Hyde Park Stadium, bumping off the Chicago Hawks, 7-3. Dave Young, who started for Dallas, pitched effectively for his team. In 9 innings, Young surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. He allowed 3 runs. The Hawks, now 38-57, have lost 4 in a row.
Dallas used the timely hitting of Mel Gaines to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Wranglers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Not the sexiest win," said Wranglers manager William Albrecht, "but I'll take it."
